Energy Transition: Beyond Technology

In a recent interview, Professor Andrea Carolina Cardoso Díaz, director of the "Energy Transitions" research group at Universidad del Magdalena and affiliated with TRAJECTS, emphasized that the shift to renewable energy is a comprehensive process that goes beyond technology.

"The energy transition is, above all, a social, economic, environmental, and cultural transformation," she stated. She highlighted the urgency of this transition, especially after surpassing the 1.5°C global warming threshold in 2024.

To ensure a just transition, she stressed the importance of community participation and the integration of Indigenous knowledge, citing the "Fuerza de Mujeres Wayuu" movement as an example of resistance and territorial defense.

Professor Cardoso Díaz concluded with a call for collective action based on justice and equity to address today’s climate challenges.
